PROFESSIONAL
Jeff Smoker is entering his second season in the AFL, and his first with the Rattlers.  Smoker spent the 2007 with the AFL’s Nashville Kats as their starting quarterback in 13 of 15 games.  He threw for 3,446 yards and 57 touchdowns while completing 60.5 percent of his passes.  He finished with a quarterback rating of 103.73 and threw 17 interceptions.  He also ran 15 times for 11 yards and three touchdowns.  Before joining the Kats in the AFL, Smoker spent three seasons in the NFL with different teams.  His most recent experience came with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he signed as a free-agent in August, 2006 but was released before the start of the season.  Spent time on the St. Louis Rams and Philadelphia Eagles practice squads from 2004-2005.  In 2004, as a rookie, was on the Rams’ active roster for all 16 games as the third string quarterback.  Originally drafted by the Rams in the sixth round (#201) of the 2004 NFL draft.

COLLEGE
Smoker played his college football at Michigan State and graduated in 2004 after completing a storied and record-setting career.  He Set Spartans records with 685 completions on 1,150 attempts (60.0%) for 8,932 yards, 61 touchdowns and 39 interceptions.  He set Michigan State University all-time record with 8,714 yards in total offense and most 200 yard passing games with 23.  As a senior in 2003, became the first quarterback in school history to reach the 3,000-yard passing milestone in a season, finishing 302-of-488 (61.9%) for 3,395 and 21 touchdowns (school records).  He also set school records in completions and attempts in a single game when he went 35-for-55 against Ohio State.  He ran for three touchdowns on 63 carries, was a second-team All-Big 10 selection and was named team MVP.  He led Big 10 conference in passing (261.2 yards per game) and in total offense (252.2 ypg.).  Smoker broke his own single season record for total offense of 2,512 yards when he registered 3,279 yards in his final season at Michigan State.  As a junior in 2002, he completed 114-of-203 throws (56.2%) for 1,593 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions and was a recipient of MSU’s Outstanding Underclass Black Award.  In 2001, as a sophomore, completed 166-of-262 passes (63.4%) for 2,579 yards, 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions for a school record 166.4 Passing Efficiency Rating.  Also scored two rushing touchdowns.  He was selected by rivals.com as a Freshman All-American after starting six games and competing 103-of-197 passes for a Michigan State freshman record, 1,365 yards and six touchdowns.  Smoker became first true-freshman is school history to start at quarterback since Dave Yarema in 1982 (vs. Indiana).

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL
Smoker was born June 13, 1981 in Manheim, PA where he attended Manheim Central High School.  He was a consensus All-America choice and was ranked amongst the nation’s top prospects by Super Prep (No. 23) and ESPN.com recruiting analyst Tom Lemming.  Was rated No. 3 by Prep Star, No. 3 by Super Prep, and No. 6 by Lemming as quarterback prospect coming out of high school.  He was a first-team All-State selection after completing 150-of-235 passes (63.8%) for 2,458 yards, 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Also rushed for 600 yards and 10 touchdowns his senior season.  He connected on 110-of-173 throws (63.6%) for 1,993 yards, 17 touchdowns and only five interceptions as a junior.  Compiled a 30-4 record as a three-year starter playing for Coach Mike Williams.  He is the son of Jay and Sue Smoker.  Smoker majored in psychology at Michigan State.
