Phoenix, Ariz. – The Arizona Rattlers (2-3) will travel to Grand Island, Nebraska to take on the Nebraska Danger (4-2) in a Friday night showdown at the Heartland Events Center. Arizona is looking to bounce back after last week’s loss against the Wichita Falls Nighthawks (5-1).
This game will mark the first meeting between the Rattlers and the Danger. The Rattlers, with a win, will pull within a half game of the Danger, who currently lead the Intense Conference. A victory will also make Arizona the only team in the Intense Conference without a conference loss.
Through eight weeks in the season, the Arizona rush attack ranks second in the league averaging 104.6 yards per game. Running back Ketrich Harmon had a break out game with 123 yards on 20 carries, averaging just over six yards per rush. With this performance Harmon was able to break the single game rushing record for most yards in a game, which was recently held by fellow running back Darrell Monroe. The Rattlers now have two of the top three rushers in the league in yards per game with Harmon and Monroe.
At quarterback for the Rattlers, Arizona native Cody Sokol got the start in their last contest and went 15 of 28 passing with four touchdowns and only one interception, amassing 224 yards through the air in his first start as a member of the Arizona Rattlers.
The Danger offensively so far this season have had better success in the run game than in their pass attack. The team ranks ninth in passing offense with 130.2 yards per game, while on the ground they rank fourth, averaging 78.7 yards per game. Quarterback Derric Bernard leads Nebraska in both categories. He has racked up 204 yards on the ground, while passing for a total of 547 yards. Bernard has also tallied for 25 of teams 38 touchdowns on offense.
The Rattlers are top five in two different categories on defense. They rank second in the league in pass defense and fourth in the league in scoring defense, only allowing opponents to score 41.4 points per game. Defensive back Adam Sauder has been a strength in the secondary with his league leading 8.4 tackles per game. Last week, Arizona had three tackles for loss, one sack, and one hit on Wichita Falls quarterback Charles McCullum.
Defensively, Nebraska has remained stout against the run so far this season. They are only allowing opposing teams to rush for 55.7 yards per game, this ranks them second in the league in rushing defense. The Danger have been very dangerous when it comes to causing opponents to put the ball on the ground. Their defense leads the league in recovered fumbles with six, with four of those being returned the other way for touchdowns.
The game is this Friday, April 7 at 5:05 PM Arizona time, and will be streamed on YouTube Live on a tablet, smartphone, or streaming device.
