RATTLERS PUMMEL PREDATORS
Arizona knocks off Orlando, 84-56
Orlando, FL – The Arizona Rattlers put up their highest point total of the season and improved to an Arena Football League best 13-2, as they rolled over the Orlando Predator (5-10) 84-56 in the Net10 Wireless Arena Football Game of the Week on CBS Sports Network Saturday night in front of 11,433 fans at the Amway Center.
Orlando got the ball to start but their possession didn’t last long as on just the fourth play of the game Virgil Gray picked off Predators QB Aaron Garcia in the end zone, it would be the first of his three interceptions on the night. Arizona took full advantage of the turnover when QB Nick Davila connected with Rod Windsor on a 26-yard pass to take a 7-0 lead.
The Predators were unable to handle the ball on the ensuing kickoff and Rattler DL Tyre Glasper swooped in to recover, quickly making it a 14-0 ballgame. A rushing touchdown from Mykel Benson and an interception from Dominic Jones to close out the first half set up another score for Orlando and tied things up at 14 all.
The two teams traded scores throughout the half and with just under three minutes to play were knotted at 28. But a one play, 48-yard, touchdown pass to Maurice Purify put Arizona back on top. The defense came up with a big stop giving the Rattlers the ball back with 37 seconds left in the half. With the clock winding down Davila found Purify to give Arizona a 42-28 lead at the break.
Arizona didn’t let up in the second half scoring on their opening drive when Tysson Poots made a stellar juggling catch in the end zone to cap a 21-0 run and make it a three score game at 49-28. The Predators were able to score on their next possession but Arizona answered, never letting Orlando pull to within less than 14 the rest of the way.
Davila finished the game 23-for-31 for 411 yards, one interception and nine touchdowns. Poots hauled in nine catches while Purify and Windsor tallied seven and five respectively. All three finished with three touchdowns a piece. Windsor, along with Odie Armstrong, also rushed one in for the Rattlers. With 12 made extra points, kicker Garrett Lindholm also extended his consecutive PATs made streak to 36.
Aaron Garcia was 25-for-40 with three picks and five touchdowns. T.T. Toliver led the Predators with nine receptions for two TDs while Benson rushed it in twice.
The Rattlers return to the Snake Pit next week for their first home game since Week 13. They will take on the New Orleans VooDoo on Saturday, July 13, at 6pm.
