MESA, Ariz. – At 9-2, the Rattlers enjoy a three and a half game division lead over the second place Utah Blaze. Arizona has never dropped a game in Salt Lake City (4-0) in its franchise history, but looks back to a tough overtime win in Week Seven to stay focused for Saturday’s match up.
Utah’s top-ranked offense (325.5 ypg) took the Rattlers into overtime on April 24 where Arizona prevailed 67-61. Utah’s efficient offense can be lauded to the addition of Offensive Coordinator Matthew Sauk, who has catapulted the Blaze offense to becoming one of the AFL’s elite units.
Leading the way for the Blaze is QB Tommy Grady. The Blaze signal caller has thrown for 3,125 yards and 74 touchdowns this season, and leads the AFL in passing yards per game averaging 312.5 yards.
In Week Seven, Arizona witnessed Grady’s talents first hand as the Utah quarterback threw for 358 yards and nine touchdowns. However, a costly interception in overtime proved to be the passer’s demise.
The Rattlers attack is quite potent as well. QB NICK DAVILA is the most efficient quarterback in the league with a passer rating of 128.7. Davila has GM/HEAD COACH KEVIN GUY’s offense firing on all cylinders. Arizona is third in scoring offense (61.0 ppg), second in total offense (319.2 ypg), and second in pass offense (298.5 ypg). WR ROD WINDSOR has consistently delivered for the Rattlers as evidenced by his 10.7 receptions per game and 127.4 receiving yards per game averages, both second best in the league.
In a game that will feature the league’s two best offenses, the defenses have never been more important. Defensively the Rattlers are exceptional. Throughout the season the defensive unit has remained in the league’s top six of every major defensive category. In an indoor game where every possession is vital, Arizona’s plus-18 turnover margin is a game changer.
