MESA, Ariz. – The Arizona Rattlers (11-2) enter a Week 14 match up with San Jose SaberCats (5-7) on June 18 at the US Airways Center on a mission to continue hitting the mile markers in a marathon Arena Football Season.
In the last match up between the two teams, Arizona left HP Pavilion with a 65-43 victory over San Jose. Much of the victory can be attributed to the Rattlers ability create turnovers. LB KEVIN MCCULLOUGH managed to grab one of San Jose’s four interceptions and return it 11 yards for a score in the final seconds of the victory.
Arizona comes into the game off of a 20-point victory (61-41) over the Iowa Barnstormers on June 11. Garnering the Offensive Player of the Game award, QB NICK DAVILA stayed true to his consistency and efficiency, completing 20-of-28 passes for 268 yards and seven touchdown strikes. Davila looks to thread the ball to his receiving corps against a SaberCats defense that has allowed an average of 319.5 total yards per contest.
In nine of his 12 games played, WR ROD WINDSOR has eclipsed 100 yards receiving. The wide receiver most recently logged 119 yards receiving against the Barnstormers in Week 13.
Rising to the test, WR KERRY REED and WR GLEN FOX each saw accelerated action against Iowa, both snaring touchdown grabs in the victory. The duo looks to continue to create production against the SaberCats.
Defensively, the Arizona backfield hopes to close the passing gaps of San Jose quarterback Mark Grieb. The signal caller has thrown for 3,497 yards and 62 touchdowns this season, finding WR Ben Nelson 13 times in just five games of play together. Grieb has helped San Jose produce an offensive output that ranks in the league’s top-five with the squad averaging 58.0 points a game and 317.3 yards of total offense.
