RATTLERS FALL TO SABERCATS
Arizona suffers second loss
San Jose, CA – For just the second time this season the Arizona Rattlers (12-2) found themselves on the losing end, falling to the San Jose SaberCats (9-4) 72-42 and having their nine-game win streak snapped on Saturday night on CBS Sports Network at the HP Pavilion.
The two teams exchanged scores throughout the first quarter. Arizona scored on the opening drive when Davila punched it in from one yard out before SaberCats Russ Michna found Fred Williams to knot it at seven. Davila would connect with Kerry Reed and Tysson Poots for the Rattlers next two tallies making it a 21-14 Arizona lead with 11 minutes to go in the second quarter.
But Michna and the SaberCats turned it on. Jason Willis made an over-the-wall touchdown catch that started what would be a 28-0 run opening up a 21 point lead, the largest deficit the Rattlers faced so far this season.
After back-to-back catches by Poots got the ball to the 1-yard line, Davila rushed it in for his second of the night to make it 42-28 only to see San Jose put up another 23 unanswered points. The SaberCats scored on every possession and posted four stops.
The Rattlers found the end zone twice in the fourth quarter while holding the SaberCats to just one score but it was too little too late.
Michna led the SaberCats going 24-for-37 for 313 yards and nine touchdowns. He connected with four different receivers for scores, including Williams who had 10 catches for 121 yards and five TDs in the game. The San Jose, which caused the Arizona offense trouble all night, got one interception, nine tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and three pass breakups from DB Ken Fontenette.
Davila was 22-of-41 for 238 yards and four touchdowns for the Rattlers. Both Poots and Reed recorded two TDs apiece. Arkeith Brown had seven tackles and two pass breakups for the Arizona defense.
The Rattlers have a bye next week before another road game that takes them to Florida to face the Orlando Predators. It will be another Net10 Wireless Arena Football Saturday game broadcast on CBS Sport Network.
The Arizona Rattlers are the 2012 ArenaBowl XXV World Champions and are proud members of the Arena Football League (AFL). ArenaBowl XXV marked the Rattlers seventh appearance in the AFL Championship Game where they have earned Arena Bowl titles in 1994, 1997 and 2012.
