Phoenix, Ariz. – The Arizona Rattlers will be getting more involved with Food for the Hungry in 2018, and it all started last Thursday, as several of the Rattlers’ dancers, the Sidewinders, volunteered with Christmas activities to help spread the holiday cheer.
“When I was able to talk to [the Sidewinders] about all the things that we do, their eyes lit up,” said Barbara Chapman, head coordinator of Food for the Hungry. “They were able to actually touch the items and be a part of something that is so global. It not only made me feel good, but it humbled me to see that they were right there with me, understanding what we do and how we do it. Their hearts just opened up to receive everything that we have done that day. I really appreciate their time.”
“We love the opportunity to give back, support our community, and represent the Arizona Rattlers,” said Sidewinders director Angie Baker. “Food for the Hungry is a wonderful organization that allows us to contribute and see a positive impact first-hand.”
Food for the Hungry is a non-profit organization that is seeking to end ALL forms of human poverty, and is currently serving over 20 countries globally. The organization is always in need of volunteers, and this need is even greater during the Holiday season.
“We have over a hundred thousand child sponsors that we have to assemble different items for,” Chapman added. “I think the fact that we bring people in from the community of Phoenix, to be a part of this and see exactly what we do, and see the heartbeat of Phoenix and the heartbeat of [Food for the Hungry] together, how we love people and love to help people, and for everyone to actually come in and see what that means; it was great.”
Every year the Rattlers collaborate with various groups and organizations with the goal of giving back to the community. From donating food during the holiday season, distributing water to the homeless during the hot summer months, visiting with kids in need of a smile while recovering in the hospital, walking for a cause to raise awareness for cancer or just hanging out with youth after school, the Rattlers are committed to being an active and positive community partner.
The Rattlers’ players will also be getting involved with Food for the Hungry this season, providing their time and support to such an important cause.
“I am so looking forward to be part of the Rattlers team,” said Chapman, “and looking forward for us to be together and join in on this process of feeding the vulnerable all over the world globally and right here in Phoenix.”
