Hello, Rattlers fans!
I want to give you all an update on how things are going in our preparation for the National Conference Championship game against the Chicago Rush (14-5). The game is on Saturday (August 6) in the US Airways Center. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Make sure you all come on out and cheer loud!
Practice has been going really well. The defense is looking strong and the offense is looking good. It’s been pretty hot lately, but the hot weather is what makes us who we are.
We have the opportunity to avenge losses to two teams that took us down once a piece in the regular season. I really like it that we have that shot. We were able to beat the Spokane Shock twice, with the Quarterfinal win counting the most.
Even though I used to play for the Shock when they were an af2 team, I treated the Quarterfinal as just another game for me. The first couple of games when we went up against them last year, I was kind of excited, overexcited actually. As I’ve grown in this role with the Rattlers, and played Spokane a few more times, it has become just another game and that’s the way you have to treat it.
The Quarterfinal game went well. I missed a few opportunities in the first quarter and couldn’t get a rhythm going, but luckily our defense was playing really well to help us get the 62-33 victory. When you have a defense that can make some stops in such a high scoring game, it helps the offense get some more possessions to score.
I believe we have played so well because we have a great group of guys, a bunch of clowns, on this team. We have a bunch of different characters on this squad, but we come together really well. That’s the key, especially in a sport where you need everyone to be on the same page. If you get a group focused on one goal, it’s pretty hard to stop them.
Our team is right where we want to be mentally and spiritually. We are hungry and are working hard after practice, taking care of our bodies, getting massages, icing and therapy. We are where we want to be, but we have to answer the phone on Saturday (August 6) to have a chance to move on to ArenaBowl XXIV.
This week, my wife and I will continue our weekly tradition of having the offensive line over for a pregame dinner. We make some authentic Mexican food and the guys eat it up faster than you can speak a word. We have fun, last week the guys were playing the “Just Dance” interactive video game. They were shaking their butts!
Two of my sisters are at the house right now playing with my son. I love playing with my son as much as I possibly can. Right now he keeps looking for his dad, but I have to tell him, “It’s playoff week now, son. So, you’ve got to go play with your cousins and aunts.”
The Chicago game is edging nearer, and we are most definitely focused. Since I’ve been playing quarterback for the Rattlers, we have not beaten the Chicago Rush. I’ve had three tries at them, and have lost all three. It’s very important that we beat them when it counts the most.
That is all for now. I do want to thank all of the fans for your continued support. It would be very difficult to be where we are now without all of your help.
