Scottsdale, Ariz. – The Arizona Rattlers have announced four new players to the roster today. Defensive back Marquese Wheaton, defensive lineman Ikponmwosa Igbinosun and offensive linemen Justin Wells and Joe Gibbs will join the team for the 2014 Arena Football League (AFL) season. This will mark the first season in the AFL and with the Rattlers for all four players.
Defensive back Marquese Wheaton is a Phoenix, Ariz. local. After graduating from Mountain Pointe high school, Wheaton played college football for Southern Mississippi, registering 13 tackles over 10 games with 11 solo tackles. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 180 pounds and attended camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2012.
Defensive lineman Ikponmwosa Igbinosun joins the Rattlers after recording 58 tackles and 7 sacks in his collegiate career. At 6 feet 4 inches and 285 pounds, he ran a 4.94 40-yard dash and showcased a 38-inch vertical jump in his 2012 NFL combine. He has been to camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers 2012 and the Dallas Cowboys 2013.
Offensive lineman Justin Wells, 6 feet 4 inches and 325 pounds, played college football for St. Augustine’s College, earning first-team All-CIAA honors as a senior in 2010. Wells attended training camp with the Carolina Panthers in 2012 and 2013 and their practice squad in 2012.
The 6-foot-5-inch, 310-pound, offensive lineman Joe Gibbs played for the University of Tennessee at Martin. Gibbs attended camp with the St. Louis Rams in 2011 and Green Bay Packers in 2012.
