Let’s get fired up for Saturday night’s National Conference Championship game against the Chicago Rush (14-5)! Kickoff is at 7 p.m. in the Snake Pit!
Thank you for all of your support during our 62-33 victory over the Spokane Shock in the Quarterfinal Playoff game (July 29). I’m sure nobody was SHOCKed by the outcome. Just kidding around! Coach Rob Keefe did an excellent job, considering all of the injuries that his squad endured this season. He and the Shock worked through adversity to get to the playoffs, finishing the regular season above the Utah Blaze and the San Jose SaberCats. We would love to see Spokane again, but we will meet next season.
We have a lot of respect for our opponent this week. Chicago is going to be a tough out. I think Head Coach Bob McMillen is doing an outstanding job this season. I have always believed that players take on the personality of their coaches. You can tell by watching their film, the players model Bob’s work ethic on the field.
This game is going to be a blue collar, grinding type game. Both teams are very physical and it will be a 60-minute game. We learned that the last time we played them [a Rattlers’ 49-50 loss at home].
Ninth Man, let’s make sure that we RISE FOR OUR RATTLERS and get the ole’ Snake Pit rocking!
This week, the team has been very focused. I have not heard anybody talking about next week, or over-looking this game. These guys have bought into the saying “Take it one-game at a time”. Nobody is looking ahead.
We brought in Doug Plank this week to be a guest speaker and he did a great job. Doug played eight years at safety for the Chicago Bears. He has coaching experience assisting with the Atlanta Falcons and the New York Jets, and coached for three seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Rattlers in the early 2000s, winning three Conference Championships with the team and one as a head coach for the Georgia Force.
Doug did a great job speaking to the guys. We have always tried to give our players different kinds of experiences and give them the opportunity to meet people they normally would not get to meet. We thought Doug was a great person to bring in to talk about his years of football experience in coaching championship-caliber teams.
I have got to get going to continue preparation for Chicago. Again, thanks for your continued support, and let’s get the US Airways Center rocking on Saturday night!
GM/HEAD COACH KEVIN GUY
