MESA, Ariz. – Over 20% of the Arizona Rattlers’ 2010 roster has received opportunities in other football leagues. Five Rattlers have signed with the United Football League (UFL), while Arizona players have also participated in three National Football League (NFL) workouts.
AFL rookie of the year and unanimous first team all league pick WR ROD WINDSOR became the latest Rattler to join the UFL ranks yesterday, when he signed with the Sacramento Mountain Lions. Windsor also garnered a pair of workouts in the NFL. His 193 receptions, 2,372 yards and 47 touchdowns for the Rattlers in 2010 rank as one of the best single season performances in the history of the game of football.
Windsor joins two Arizona teammates in K FABRIZIO SCACCIA and LB DALE ROBINSON. Scaccia was a steady force for the Rattlers after joining the team in midseason. He connected on over 91% of his extra points. Robinson, an Arizona State product, notched a sack and two tackles for loss in four games with the Rattlers.
A trio of Rattler offensive linemen have also received opportunities this offseason. OL KYLE YOUNG, the only center to be named to the AFL’s first team all-league, signed with the Florida Tuskers while OL MATT SPANOS joined the expansion Omaha Nighthawks. OL DEVIN CLARK, who started every game for the team as a rookie after joining the team in midseason, also worked out for the Carolina Panthers.
The Rattlers finished the 2010 regular season with a 10-6 record, the team’s best since 2004 when Arizona visited the last of their five Arena Bowls. Head Coach KEVIN GUY became the first Rattler head coach in history to lead his squad to the playoffs in each of his first two seasons.
