Joe Micela has been in the Strength and Conditioning community in Arizona for over 19 years. He has worked for Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, Mesa Community, and Chandler Gilbert Community College. In 2000, Coach Micela founded Performance One Advanced Sports Training, LLC a private strength and conditioning facility geared to developing and training athletes from all levels. He is considered a leader in the field of Olympic Weightlifting and Explosive Power Development for Sports Strength and Conditioning.
In 2008 Coach Micela was awarded the Developmental Coach of the Year Award from the United States Olympic Committee for developing high-level athletes. Coach Micela is very passionate about the sport of Olympic Weightlifting where he has earned numerous national coaching honors. He is one of the only coaches in America that has produced an athlete to every level of competition both nationally and internationally. The highlight of his Weightlifting Coaching career was that he lead the US Women’s Weightlifting Team to the 2012 Olympic Games.
Coach Micela sits on the USA Weightlifting National Youth Committee. He holds the title of Senior International Coach from USA Weightlifting and is CSCS certified from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Coach Micela has lectured throughout the country on the benefits of Strength and Conditioning for sports and has coached athletes to national and international medals.
Coach Joe Micela was born in South Philadelphia, PA and grew up in Southern New Jersey. He attended Rutgers University and Arizona State University on a Wrestling Scholarship. He graduated from ASU with a degree in Exercise Science and Physical Education. Joe resides in Mesa, Arizona with his wife Libby and their two sons Antonino and Gabriel.
