Phoenix, Ariz. – The Arizona Rattlers announced today that they have signed defensive lineman Herbert Gonzales III and kicker Sawyer Petre for the Rattlers inaugural season in the Indoor Football League (IFL).
Gonzales (6-1, 305, Texas State) enters the 2017 IFL season as a rookie. Prior to joining the Rattlers, Gonzales attended Texas State University where he earned the Supercat award in 2015. Gonzales also attended the University of Texas El Paso in 2011.
The San Antonio, Texas native attended Southwest High School where he was a three-time All-District defensive tackle (second team his sophomore year and first team his junior and senior years). He was also All-District First team tight end during his junior year. Gonzales also earned Academic All-State honors for finishing in the top five percent of his class.
Petre (5-10, 185, Puget Sound) also enters the 2017 IFL season as a rookie. Prior to joining the Rattlers, Petre attended Puget Sound University where in 2014 he was All-NWC (Northwest Conference) second team, and holds the all-time Loggers record for longest field goal (51 yards).
The Denver, Colorado native attended Kent Denver High School, where he was a two-time All-Conference kicker and punter and was Second Team All-State kicker and punter as a senior.
