Phoenix, Ariz. – The Arizona Rattlers (4-2) will be looking to bounce back from their second loss of season when they visit the New Orleans VooDoo (2-4) this Saturday, May 9th at 5:00 PM.
The Rattlers are coming off of a hard fought battle with the San Jose SaberCats (6-0) that ended in a score of 56-34 in favor of the SaberCats. Arizona gave San Jose all that they could handle with their improved special teams, threatening offense, and tough defense.
Quarterback B.J. Coleman made his first start of the season for the Rattlers and recorded 191 yards that resulted in 3 touchdown passes. Fullback Mykel Benson also proved to be effective against the SaberCat defense as he ripped through the line to pick up a 1-yard touchdown. The Arizona defense did some damage of their own as both Tyre Glasper and Cliff Dukes picked up a sack on San Jose quarterback Erik Meyer. Kicker Fabrizio Scaccia went 4-5 in point after attempts (PAT’s) while A.J. Cruz returned 7 kickoffs for 189 yards and a touchdown for the special teams unit.
The New Orleans VooDoo are coming off their victory over the Spokane Shock (1-4) where kicker Garrett Lindholm made a 41-yard field goal as time expired to push New Orleans ahead of Spokane, 66-63. Fullback Roosevelt Falls led the VooDoo offense with a franchise record 5 touchdowns on only 11 carries. The VooDoo defense forced 3 turnovers against the Shock in the second half that proved to be Spokane’s undoing.
The New Orleans VooDoo have gathered some momentum for Saturday’s game at the Smoothie King Arena. The Rattlers, on the other hand, aim to get their fourth straight victory against the VooDoo. The two teams have not faced each other since 2013 when Arizona beat New Orleans by a score of 79-42 at the Snake Pit.
The game can be seen live on ESPN3 or the WatchESPN app on your tablet or smartphone.
