PHOENIX, ARIZ. – The Arizona Rattlers (18-3) dropped ArenaBowl XXIV to the Jacksonville Sharks (17-4) by a score of 73-70 in front of 14,320 fans inside the US Airways Center on Friday (August 12). The game lived up to all the hype as predicted. It took nearly 60 minutes to decide the winner, but a 10-yard touchdown toss by Sharks QB Aaron Garcia to WR Jeron Harvey with two seconds left sealed Arizona’s fate.
QB NICK DAVILA completed 25-of-40 passes for 338 yards and eight touchdowns. WR CHRIS JACKSON had a huge game, catching 10 balls for 136 yards and three touchdowns, his efforts nabbed him the Russell Offensive Player of the Game. WR JASON GEATHERS contributed with seven catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns.
WR KERRY REED made a phenomenal catch in the corner of the endzone with 21 seconds to go to put the Rattlers up 70-67, but it was to no avail, as the Rattlers could not hold on to the lead.
The Rattler defense forced one fumble in the contest as each team allowed 26 first downs. DB MARQUIS FLOYD led the team in tackles with (9.5) and DL ANTAJJ HAWTHORNE recovered a fumble with 41 seconds to go in the second quarter as the Rattlers led 32-28.
The Jacksonville offense was lead by Garcia who completed 28-of-42 passes for 402 yards and eight touchdowns. WR Jomo Wilson caught nine balls for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Harvey finished the game with nine catches for 115 yards, three touchdowns.
The Sharks defense forced three Rattler turnovers with two first-half fumble recoveries and one key interception in the fourth quarter. DB Micha Robinson had seven tackles, the team’s one interception, and was named Riddell Defensive Player of the Game.
