PHOENIX – The Arizona Rattlers selected Quarterback LANG CAMPBELL (6-1, 210) with the second pick in the Arena Football League’s dispersal draft today, making
Campbell the first new player added by first-year coach Kevin Guy.
The 26 year old William and Mary product, most recently with the Arizona Cardinals, was selected from the Austin Wranglers, who left the AFL to join the AFL2 league this offseason. He spent one season in
Austin , compiling a 66.7% completion percentage with 2279 yards and 41 touchdowns in eight starts with a 111.78 quarterback rating.
“We look forward to seeing Lang in a Rattler uniform,” said Guy. “He’ll be a great addition to this team. He did a fantastic job in a tough situation for
Austin last year, taking over the starting job halfway through the season.”
Arizona also nabbed one of
Campbell ’s receivers in the second round in KEVIN NICKERSON (5-9, 185). The 27 year old Nickerson, who played his college ball at
Central
Missouri
State , recently finished his third season in Arena Football. He played in 14 games for
Austin in 2007, finishing with 90 receptions for 1025 yards and 11 touchdowns.
“Kevin will give us some flexibility because he can play receiver and defensive back. He is also a very versatile player who can also return kicks.” said Guy.
Rounding out the draft were the selections of DL BENARD THOMAS (6-3, 273) from Austin and WR JAMES TERRY (6-5, 192). Thomas, who did not play in any games for the Wranglers last season, spent time with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars (2005), Atlanta Falcons (2005) and Baltimore Ravens (2005-06) after completing his collegiate career at
Nebraska . Terry was a standout receiver for
Kansas
State who was in
Nashville ’s training camp last season.
The Rattlers can begin signing free agents on Monday, October 29th.
